2. They Know He’s Nobody’s Favourite Hero
Aquaman's cheesy lameness doesn't go unnoticed among comic book fans. And thankfully, it didn't go unnoticed behind the scenes on his movie. Chatting to MTV, James Wan has revealed that he's well aware that "Aquaman is somewhat the butt of the joke in the superhero world." But he's not seeing that as a negative prospect.
"There’s something cool about that", Wan enthusiastically stated, before explaining that he loves "the idea of being the underdog, coming in with a take on this underdog character and completely blow people’s expectations away. Like, ’Oh, you thought he was going to be a wimpy character? No no no.’ It’s going to be so cool."
That sounds like the perfect attitude to adopt with the Aquaman film: accept the fact that your protagonist has a bed reputation, maybe even make a few jokes about it, but then get down to the business of changing that perception and making him cool. Hopefully, this won't just happen on the surface level (with the guitars and the tattoos) but cut right to the core of the story and its characters. There could be something really special here, if it all comes together.
