10 Things You Need To Know About Sony's Spider-Man Universe Plans
1. Venom Vs. Carnage...Vs. Spider-Man?!
Critically, Venom was a flop. The film still attracted a huge audience, though, and seemingly sat much better with regular moviegoers than critics. Now, Andy Serkis has been tasked with directing the sequel and comic book fans are finally going to see Woody Harrelson's Carnage attempting to take a bite out of Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock.
We probably shouldn't bank on Spidey showing up in the sequel, but it wouldn't be too shocking for the stage to be set for the hero to finally meet Venom (something Hardy and Tom Holland have been vocal about wanting to make a reality). More importantly for Sony, a crossover like this is a guaranteed box office hit.
The signs all appear to be pointing to a three-way battle between Spider-Man, Venom, and Carnage somewhere down the line, and pairing Peter Parker up with the Symbiote could be a game-changer for the SUMC. Sony wanted Holland to make a cameo appearance in the first Venom movie too, so this is an idea they've been mulling over for a long time now.
Expect to see the groundwork for this laid in October when Venom 2 arrives in cinemas...
