Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox was significant for a variety of reasons, but for comic book fans, the biggest takeaway from that was the fact characters from the worlds of the X-Men and Fantastic Four were finally returning "home" to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is in charge of the future of characters like Wolverine, Doctor Doom, Deadpool, and the Silver Surfer, and that's music to the ears of fans who hated what Fox did with their franchises. However, thanks to movies like Fantastic Four and Dark Phoenix, the heroes and villains from those worlds desperately need redemption.

That means Feige will have to go back to the drawing board, but what has actually been revealed about his plans for these beloved characters? It's still early days, but some big changes are on the way, and things are definitely looking up for the superhero teams.

Once the X-Men and Fantastic Four make their presence felt, the MCU will never be the same again, and while their respective reboots are still a good few years away, they're going to make an impact much sooner than you're probably expecting. Now, we're breaking down everything you need to know about what that will entail and Marvel's future plans...

10. The X-Men Might Not Be The "X-Men"

Dark Phoenix ensured that Fox's X-Men franchise ended with a whimper rather than a bang, and while Disney removed "X-Men" from the film's title, moviegoers aren't daft, and the name has been tainted (meaning it won't easy to lure people back into cinemas).

Well, Marvel Studios Executive Vice President of Production Victoria Alonso said last year that she believes the "X-Men" moniker is outdated, and alluded to "X-Women" or "X-People" perhaps being a more fitting title moving forward.

"It’s funny that people call it the X-Men, there’s a lot of female superheroes in that X-Men group, so I think it’s outdated," she argued. It's worth noting that Kevin Feige even referred to the team as "mutants" rather than the X-Men during last year's Comic-Con, so it's entirely possible that a complete rebranding is in the works for this iconic team.

Not everyone will be happy with that, of course, but after years of sub-par movies from Fox, calling the reboot "Uncanny X-Men" might not be enough to bring people back.
