10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Hellraiser
1. Pinhead Isn't Important In The Novel
Pinhead is so integral to each entry in the Hellraiser franchise, it feels impossible for the stories to function without him. However, Pinhead is so insignificant in the original novel, Clive Barker never bothered to give him a name.
He may take centre stage in the film series but he serves as a mere minion to a more powerful demon in The Hellhound Heart. His master, simply called The Lead Cenobite, has an assortment of chained hooks across his face, stretching out every aspect of his head. He has several chained hooks that links his eyes and mouth, causing the flaps of his eyelids to open every time he speaks.
Even though Pinhead has the same grid-like needle pattern we see in the film, his personality is unexplored in the novella. Because he has a more distinctive look, it was decided in the film production to have him repurposed as the central adversary of the story.
After Barker saw the popularity of the character, he made Pinhead the official antagonist in the novel's sequels, The Scarlet Gospels and Hellraiser: The Toll.
