Graham Chapman was an incredibly vital part in the Monty Python group, as his performances were often the most believable. Because of this, he normally took on the leading roles, and Holy Grail was no exception. In the film, Graham actually plays the least amount of parts, while Palin takes the most, which might explain another reason as to why Chapman was given this luxury.

The Knights of the quest for the Grail all needed to look accurate, but the film had a minuscule budget, and therefore could not afford to give each character a fully realised wardrobe. So, to make sure that King Arthur felt special, he was the only person given legitimate armour, which weighed in at 25 pounds.

The remaining members of the cast wore knitted wool which was painted to appear realistic. This works perfectly well, as you cannot tell that the remaining knights are faking it, and it does make King Arthur stand out. However, things were undoubtedly less pleasant for the rest of the cast when it got rainy.

Who made him King anyway?
