10 Times 90s Cinema Tried To Reboot 60s Television (And Failed)

3. The Flintstones (1994)

Lost In Space
Universal Pictures

Starting out as an animated parody of American sitcoms such as The Honeymooners, The Flintstones became television’s first beloved cartoon family and it’s almost a wonder why it took 30 years for their big-screen debut. Brilliant casting with John Goodman as Fred and Rick Moranis as his neighbor Barney, Elizabeth Perkins as Wilma and, er, Rosie O'Donnell as Betty, The Flintstones was a huge box office success despite being critically panned, with cinema audiences enjoying the respect and accuracy to the source material.

Sadly, due to the fact it earned multiple Razzie nominations, including O'Donnell picking up the worst actress gong, the original cast never made it back for a sequel. Instead, a prequel “Viva Rock Vegas” was released six years later with all new leads in the iconic roles, and it bombed pretty hard. Yabba Dabba Damn.
