10 Times 90s Cinema Tried To Reboot 60s Television (And Failed)

4. Lost In Space (1996)

Lost In Space
New Line Cinema

There is only one good thing to take from Lost In Space 1998, and that is the banger of a theme tune remix by Apollo 440. As the cast of Friends were trying to escape being typecast as one-note characters, Joey, sorry, Matt LeBlanc’s ticket out of the Central Perk coffee house was this sci-fi adventure.

Taking the vibrant colours of the TV show and replacing them with dull blacks and greys, as was the style at the time, Lost In Space 1998 missed the mark with new audiences and fans of the original series. Fun fact: the show was set in the far off future of 1997, which was the year the film began production. There were many reasons for the lack of box office attendance, not least of all the movie's poster tagline which literally told its potential audience to “Get Lost”.
