10 Times Doctor Who Actors Took On Another Cult Franchise
3. Matt Smith In Terminator
If you've been wondering where the hell Matt Smith has been since he put the world of Doctor Who behind him in 2013 (and trust us, you're not the only one!) then rest assured that he's been keeping himself busy - or trying to, at least - over in America. After a brief stint as the American Pyscho in the West End, he ventured across the pond to conquer Hollywood (although he's since returned to the UK to make a horror romcom about zombies) where, unfortunately, his efforts were seemingly in vein. He did get handpicked to star in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, though, which isn't too shabby (OK, the film itself, Lost River, has been universally panned which means that no company even wanted to distribute it, but the point still stands). One of Matt's post-Who projects that actually will be making it to the big screen is Terminator: Genisys, the fifth installment of what is widely regarded as one of the most formidable science-fiction franchises of all time. That's it, Matt. Stick to what you know. The Eleventh Doctor star takes on the role of Tim who was introduced - for those of you whose knowledge of the Terminator mythology begins and ends with Arnold Schwarzenegger's infamous line "I'll be back!" - in the second film as the mulleted friend of John Connor who he now fights alongside as part of the human resistance. It's due to be released in cinemas this summer so Matt's fans (or 'Matt's Mobsters, as they're affectionally known) don't have much longer to wait to see their beloved back in action. In the meantime you can enjoy the trailer in which you get to see the outline of Matt's head if you're particularly vigilant. Them's the breaks.
