10 Times Hollywood Learned The Wrong Lesson From Movies

2. Make More Movies Based On Mattel Products - Barbie

It's fair to say that Barbie has been a success beyond anyone's wildest dreams - the audience, director Greta Gerwig, stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, studio Warner Bros, or Barbie manufacturer Mattel.

In light of the film's storming box office performance, Mattel wasted no time reiterating their long-gestating plans to develop a bevy of blockbuster movies based on their most iconic toy products, with a stonking 14 different Mattel films now in the works.

Except, did anyone come away from Barbie thinking it indicated the cinematic potential of movies based on Barney, Hot Wheels, Polly Pocket, Uno, and the other dozen-or-so toys Mattel is eyeing for the big screen?

Considering that even a sequel to Barbie feels like it's pushing it, given how conclusively the first movie ended, it's tough not to roll your eyes at Mattel now desperately trying to build cinematic behemoths out of basically their entire literal toy chest.
