10 Times Movie Franchises Totally Broke Your Trust

1. LGBTQ+ Representation - MCU

As was expected after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, the biggest talking points going into Endgame revolved around the characters that fell victim to Thanos' snap. How would they return, what role would they have to play in the movie, etc. However, in the run up to its release, there was something else that stole headlines.

The Russo brothers confirmed that the fourth Avengers movie would feature the MCU's first ever openly gay character. In a franchise that had historically fallen short when it came to diversity and representation, this was huge, and was rightly talked about a lot in the days and weeks building up to the film itself.

The reality however, was incredibly disappointing. The character in question was Joe Russo's unnamed cameo, who spoke to Steve Rogers about his recent date with a man. A blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment from a never before or since seen character was not exactly the expectation that had been set. Most people thought this was going to be something far more substantial, and real, but were left disappointed and in some instances insulted.

There has been an increase in LGBTQ+ representation throughout Phase Four, but there is absolutely no question that Marvel Studios could have done more with the platform and opportunity given them by what would become the highest grossing movie of all time.
