10 Times Movie Sequels Abandoned Major Storylines

8. Nagini - Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbeldore

Because the Fantastic Beasts films are set in the past, we presumed the spinoff franchise would delve into the backstories of pivotal Harry Potter characters, such as Dumbledore and Grindelwald.

However, one character we didn't expect to receive an origin story was Voldemort's pet snake, Nagini. In The Crimes of Grindelwald, it's revealed that Nagini is a Maledictus - a cursed human destined to permanently transform into a mindless beast. Newt Scamander is introduced to Nagini at a circus, where she serves as the star attraction.

After developing feelings for Credence Barebone, the bedevilled shapeshifter escapes the circus, hoping to lead a normal life. But when Credence allies with the nefarious Grindelwald, Nagini leaves him to join forces with Newt's team.

Or so it would seem.

Last we saw of Nagini, she and the others headed to Hogwart's Castle. But in the follow-up, The Secrets of Dumbledore, Nagini has seemingly vanished off the face of the Earth. Although not everybody was a fan of Nagini's backstory, it still feels odd to drop it altogether, especially after the previous film spent considerable time developing it.
