10 Times Movie Sequels Screwed Over Strong Female Characters

6. Padmé Amidala - Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith

Queen Padmé Amidala (played by Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley, sort of) is the well-spoken, tough negotiating, sharp shooting leader of Naboo.

In the first two films in the Star Wars prequels, Amidala shows her fearlessness and ingenuity to get out of a number of tricky situations, the most notable being during The Petranaki Arena Of Justice fight scene on Geonosis in Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones. Here Padme manages to escape her shackles, climb a pillar and take out a rapid beast sent to kill her.

From beginning to end of Attack Of The Clones, Padmé is a constant badass. Even towards the end when she is shot out of a ship whilst hunting down Count Dooku, she gets up, brushes herself off and commands a clone to get another ship ready.

In Revenge Of The Sith however, most of her dialogue is about her concern about losing Anakin and, although she is pregnant and can't go around swinging from pillars anymore, there is still no excuse for her not having more of a political role within the movie. Especially considering The Empire's plot to gain more and more power as they slowly take control of The Senate.
