10 Times Star Wars Gave Fans What Wanted (and They Hated It)

5. Give Han Solo His Own Movie

The Book of Boba Fett
Lucasfilm

Luke Skywalker may be the hero of Star Wars, but Han Solo is the one we all love. So, when Disney announced they were setting up Star Wars spin-offs and origin stories, a prequel revolving around Harrison Ford's career-defining character was at the top of our wanted lists.

Sadly, Solo: A Star Wars Story did everything wrong. Han's roguish demeanour was so toned down, it barely feels like the same character. Alden Ehrenreich does his best as the iconic smuggler but fails to match Ford's performance.

Not only does this prequel have the usual cliches and predictable curveballs, it spends so much time connecting backstories to the most insignificant aspects of the original trilogy. Did you ever wonder why the Millennium Falcon's computer is cranky? Or why the ship is missing a chunk at the tip? Did you ever want to know the origins of Han's surname? No? Well, all these questions are answered anyway.

What's more frustrating is that the president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, believed Solo failed purely because the titular character wasn't played by Ford. By not acknowledging the rest of the film's flaws, it's guaranteed Star Wars will continue to make the same mistakes, so long as the property is under her stead.
