10 Times Star Wars Totally Trolled You

8. Han’s Last Name

Han Solo - a cool name for a cool guy.

The galaxy's greatest princess-romancing, Wookiee-befriending, waistcoat-wearing smuggler is one of the go-to examples of a badass dude, and his awesome name certainly helps with that image.

Imagine, then, how disappointed his fans were to discover the less-than-stellar origins of that moniker.

2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story (which could count as one massive troll on its own) opens on a young Han escaping the planet Corellia. He ends up joining the Imperial Navy and, thanks to the busybody at the enrolment desk, gets given a last name.

Han doesn't actually have one to begin with and so cannot provide it when asked. The clerk behind the desk improvises, naming him "Solo" based on the fact that he is alone. He could have easily ended up being called Han Loner or Han GotNoFriends instead.

All this scene does is massively overcomplicate the backstory for something nobody cared about.

Up to this point, everyone was more than happy to believe that Solo was just Han's family name. We really didn't need to learn the anecdote behind how it came to be.
