10 Times The MCU Betrayed Your Trust
6. An Underwhelming Send Off (Black Widow)
Natasha Romanoff is, simply put, one of the greatest characters to have graced the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the last 13 years. Introduced way back in 2010 in Iron Man 2, there aren’t many who can claim to have the same MCU tenure as Black Widow.
Many believed that she should have been the feature of Marvel’s first female led movie, given her popularity and importance to the franchise, however Captain Marvel stole that honour from her. Eventually she did get her own movie, but not until after she had already died in Avengers: Endgame.
Everyone can agree that Black Widow came way too late, but at least she was getting her own franchise, and closure on her journey in the MCU. However, though it wasn’t a bad movie particularly, it certainly didn’t reach the heights MCU fans are used to, and those deserving of the character.
We waited a LONG time for this event, even without the delays caused by the pandemic, and in the end Marvel Studios gave us something that honestly, really wasn’t worth the wait. It was a middle of the road, average MCU movie, that was hard to get truly invested in when the ultimate fate of the main character was already known.
