10 Trailers That Were Better Than The Film
1. Suicide Squad
Suicide Squad was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of the year for a number of reasons - popularity of the characters, faux-controversial on-set antics from the cast, and a relentless marketing campaign fronted by an influx of very promising trailers. They were fun, fast, furious, complimented by fantastic songs, and certainly suggested that the titular Suicide Squad would be as violent and brutal as the comic books they originate from.
Now, the film itself has plenty of critics and, frankly, passionate to the point of aggressive defenders. But away from adding another review of the film to the inherently opinionated internet, let's just agree to disagree that the film was underwhelming at best.
The real gripe with the trailer is the fact that it suggested that The Joker was going to be a major player in the narrative, and perhaps even the principal antagonist. The marketing team, DC bigwigs and David Ayer can't even use the excuse that they were trying to hide the identity of the villain, Enchantress, to avoid spoilers for the simple fact that Enchantress was arguably the worst aspect of the entire movie. Who cares if we knew prior to the film that Enchantress was the big-bad? She sucked!
Putting across that The Joker was going to be one of the main characters instead of a subplot that had very little influence on the outcome of the story is false advertising in a successful attempt to put more bums in seats. This meant that many of us who were excited to see perhaps the most iconic comic book character of all time portrayed by, love him or hate him, a very talented Jared Leto, left the cinema feeling short-changed, because if you've seen the trailers then you've more or less seen everything that The Joker has to offer in the film. Don't agree with me? Then ask Jared Leto.
