8. Cabin In The Woods (2012) - Finale
I've already spoken about this previously but despite being a pretty consistently brilliant film throughout, it's really the characters who make Cabin In The Woods a breath of air in a stifled genre of film. We care about these people, this weird 'Breakfast Club' of a virginal girl, a jock, an airhead, a stoner and a smart guy who are so much more than that. In the final scenes, a bloody and dying Dana chooses to sacrifice the world over killing Marty, one of her oldest friends and the pair share a final joint before the Old Ones, ancient monstrous giants awaken. The sacrifice of true friendship ensures the survival of 'humanity' as a concept, as the purest form of itself, even if millions die for it - Dana and Marty go against the sacrifice of humans and stop the inhumanity of... well, humanity. Yay?
