10 Unbelievably Boring Horror Movies

3. The Nun

Bradley Cooper The Midnight Meat Train
Warner Bros.

The Conjuring was a huge success when it first released. The film was wildly popular, and everyone wanted to see more. After sequels occurred, the filmmakers started to look for different inspirations to create stand-alone movies. They thus began to make spin-offs related to the scariest elements of the mainline projects. This is why we were treated to this abomination.

One of the most significant issues with these kinds of films - including The Nun and Annabelle series - is that we ultimately know what happens as we have seen where their journey ends up taking them. Thanks to this, there is not even a tiny semblance of dread or mystery at all.

Additionally, the film takes a spirit that is frightening because of how limited your interactions are with it and overexposes it, taking away its sense of ambiguity. It attempts to add a mythos and legacy behind Valak, which is the character's real name. But in doing so, it ends up completely stripping the spirit of the thing that made it so terrifying in the first place.

If you want an excellent haunting spiritual movie, then look elsewhere because this one is an absolute dud.
