10 Underappreciated 80s Slashers

1. Intruder

Sleepaway Camp
Empire Pictures

Scott Spiegel directs and co-writes this great little late ‘80s Slasher, with Lawrence Bender assisting on the script ahead of his work with Tarantino. The raw talent of this duo gives a solid foundation to Intruder – one of the more unfairly under-viewed movies on this list.

The action is set in a local mini-mall where the staff suffer some harassment from one of their colleague’s ex-boyfriends, find out they are all losing their jobs and then start getting picked off by a mystery killer. The kill scenes are all very well put together with one in particular really standing out from the rest.

The cast are all very likeable, with the main female protagonist Jennifer (Elizabeth Cox) being a strong and resourceful horror heroine. Sam Raimi, stepping out from behind the camera, is also a good watch and the narrative is really strong throughout with some great dialogue and a decent end twist.

The talent behind the camera shines through with great use of POV shooting and excellent editing which brings a good pacing to the film, and watch out for the king of cameos, Ted Raimi, always a good addition to any movie.
