After taking an extended hiatus from acting to serve two terms as the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger's first starring role in a decade landed with a thud of the box office, as it appeared that the action icon's name no longer had the drawing power that made him one of the biggest stars in the business.

The Last Stand could only open in ninth place domestically, and ended up leaving theaters having just barely recouped the $45m budget, leading many to believe that Arnie's big comeback was over before it had even had a chance to get started.

It might not bring much in the way of innovation or originality, but there's an undeniable charm in seeing Schwarzenegger embrace his advancing years as the aging sheriff of a small sleepy town forced into action to stop an international criminal. It also marked an impressive Hollywood debut for acclaimed South Korean filmmaker Kim Jee-woon, and The Last Stand's poor performance might well be the reason that he hasn't been afforded another Stateside opportunity since.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
