10 Underrated Disney Films Everyone Forgets
4. The Great Mouse Detective
Apart from being a fun take on Sherlock Holmes, 1986's The Great Mouse Detective is a fun Disney animated feature to boot!
In a tale of kidnapping and royalty in Victorian England, this story focuses on the animals that live with Holmes and Dr. Watson at 221B, Baker Street in London. Basil of Baker Street and sidekick Dr. David Q. Dawson aim to help Olivia Flaversham find her kidnapped father, with a celebration by the Queen of England serving as a subplot.
The real star of the show, however, is horror icon Vincent Price as the villainous Professor Ratigan, the self-proclaimed World's Greatest Criminal Mind. Price brings the same dark charisma he did at the height of his career and is incredibly scary in the role, even if it isn't actually him. His Ratigan radiates actual fear and intimidation and makes one think he is capable of hurting them, even if he is just an animated ra... er... mouse. A really big mouse!
Either way, if you liked reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories at any point in your life, give this Disney diamond in the rough a shot.
