5. Secret Window

Based on one of King's short stories, Secret Window came out in 2004 and stars Johnny Depp as best-selling crime author Mort Rainey who retreats to a lonely lake cabin to overcome writer's block. There, he is confronted by a menacing man named Shooter who claims that Rainey stole one of his story ideas. Thus begins a harrowing 90 minutes in which Depp is physically and psychologically stalked by his new neighbour and his own personal problems.

Hitchcockian in style and tone, Secret Window is a highly tense and riveting suspense movie with a well-paced plot that becomes more twisted and terrifying as it continues, typing up with a shocking ending that's sure to leave viewers' jaws on the floor.

The movie is regarded as one of Depp's deepest and greatest performances, and he carries the plot along with aplomb. The original book is one of King's smartest stories and director David Koepp did a sterling job of bringing that tale to life on the silver screen.
