10 Underseen Vampire Movies To Fill The True Blood Hole In Your Life

3. Shadow Of The Vampire

Another riff on the legend of Nosferatu, Shadow of the Vampire takes a more meta approach than Herzog's Vampyre in that it focuses on the actual production of F.W. Murnau's film. Running with the (literally) killer idea that Max Schreck, the actor who played Count Orlock (as played by Willem Dafoe), is himself actually a vampire, the film plays with history in a darkly comic fashion, detailing exactly what lengths the director (John Malkovich) will go to in order to achieve his vision, including allowing Schreck to drain his co-stars of their blood onscreen. Well, there's going method and then there's that. A criminally underseen film - probably due to the bonkers concept that only film historians and horror buffs would go out to the cinema to see - Shadow of the Vampire is well worth checking out for its enthralling alternate history and dazzling central performances.
