9. Mace Windu’s Death

When king of cool Samuel L Jackson was announced as a cast member for the Star Wars prequels, fans were understandably excited to see what character the creators had conjured up for such an iconic actor to take on. Jackson had at this stage already impressed in everything from a pair of Tarantino films to pulpy monster movie Deep Blue Sea, and the gravitas and charm he brought to every role were a perfect fit for the eclectic cast of the prequels.

Mace Windu didn’t disappoint—initially. The heroic Jedi Master served as both the leader of the Jedi and their wartime Jedi General, both roles he earned as the one of the greatest masters of the Force. His slick decapitation of Jango Fett secured his status as an implacable and impressive master of the Force—all of which made his eventual demise all the more inexplicable and hilarious.

There are the strained groans shared by him and Darth Sidious, which sound less like a struggle to the death and more like some serious indigestion, but worst of all is Windu’s unexpected death, sent flying out the window by Sidious’ force lightning after having his arm unceremoniously lopped off, as the foe rants about “POW-AH!”
