10 Unintentionally Funny Moments In Star Wars
6. “Salt”
The Last Jedi split critics, casual audiences, and the
franchise’s long-time fandom alike upon its release in late 2017, with Rian
Johnson’s lone directorial contribution to the franchise earning both great
praise and ire for its subversive plot and unpredictable character arcs.
One thing is for certain—there’s one minor moment which stood out as being worthy of the franchise’s prequels, whatever about the original trilogy, in terms of its unintentionally comical delivery.
As the Resistance fighters camp out on the salt planet of Crait, one intrepid soldier takes it upon himself to discern just what the planet’s surface consists of by, er… sticking out a finger and licking the surface of the earth.
The answer?
A deadpan and utterly surreal “salt”.
Yes, okay, so a geophysicist soon took to Twitter to clarify that licking rocks isn’t an uncommon practice, particularly for fighters attempting to discern what terrain they’re fighting on, but there’s no getting around how strange the scene in in context, and the logical explanation did nothing to quell giggles in the aisles during the tense moment.
