10 Unintentionally Funny Moments In Star Wars
5. “Do It”
Poor Emperor Palpatine. As the nefarious antagonist of Revenge of the Sith and primary tempter of Anakin toward the Dark Side, Palpatine is infamous amongst the fandom for his, er, less than subtle attempts to mask his “secret” evil intentions. And we love him for it! The theatrical villain is second only to Darth Vader himself when it comes to iconic onscreen villains of the franchise (sorry, Messrs Gleeson and Driver).
That said, some moments are hard to forgive even for those with a high tolerance for cheesy villain-ry. Take the death of Count Dooku (what is it with these movies and silly death scenes?). Dooku had been a key player in the prequels who could be expected to face death with dignity, and the scene might have been a dark development in Anakin’s gradually unravelling sanity and slide toward the dark side.
Instead it was turned into a moment of unintended comedy by Palpatine’s simpering prod of “Do it”—well, the line’s actually more like “Dew et”, and the Emperor’s little smirk as he cheerfully tells Anakin to hack a human head off is surreal enough to render the moment bizarre and unintentionally hilarious.
