10 Unmissable Films Still To Come In 2014

5. Inherent Vice

Paul Thomas Anderson is one of Hollywood's greatest auteurs - one of very few filmmakers, like Quentin Tarantino, who is afforded the luxury of having full creative control over his projects. Which means that his motion pictures are rarely ever anything other than spectacular, beautiful and uncompromising. Inherent Vice, his latest venture, looks to be no different: an adaptation of a novel by Thomas Pynchon, it also stars Joaquin Phoenix. The trailer for Inherent Vice is, in itself, a rendering of the highest order - a showcase for Paul Thomas Anderson's incomparable visual style if ever there was one. The movie is set in 1970, as Private investigator Larry "Doc" Sportello (Phoenix) finds himself tasked with investigating the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend. Given that this comes from the man who brought us There Will Be Blood and Boogie Nights, "unmissable" is the word.
