8. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
Jack Reacher felt like the little franchise starter that could, and no, that isnt a sneaky joke about height. The movie was a serviceable thriller with a charismatic turn by Tom Cruise, but the main issue is it felt like a big budget ITV procedural. While it didnt do crazy business it still returned a tidy profit, so a sequel had to happen. The movie will adapt one of the most recent novels Never Go Back where Reacher is accused of an old murder in the army and discovers he may have a teenage daughter. The book is meant to be one of the best in the series, which at least means the movie version will have a good plot. Christopher McQuarrie sadly wont be returning to direct, but Ed Zwick (Glory, Blood Diamond) is a solid replacement. If the movie is anything like the original it will be a solid couple of hours entertainment, but it wont stick long in the mind. Maybe people will be more jazzed for it closer to release, but excitement is muted at this stage.
