My Big Fat Greek Wedding was the little indie the kind of little indie produced by Tom Hanks that charmed the world and made all the money back in 2002. It was a harmless rom-com about a Greek woman marrying a non-Greek hunk, and both of them having to deal with her families wacky antics along the way. After nearly fifteen years Nia Vardalos has deemed humanity worthy of a sequel, in which the couple has to deal with an emotional teen daughter and organise a bigger, fatter and presumably Greeker wedding for her parents. While the original was harmless froth that travelled far on good word of mouth, it hasnt really lingered in the mind of the public, and a much-belated follow-up feels more motivated by money than any burning need to tell a story. It has the potential to be a huge sleeper hit like the original, but with a noticeable lack of buzz surrounding it My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 feels like its going to get lost among bigger, flashier releases coming along at the same time.
