5. Black Manta - Aquaman

The Villain: Aquaman's archenemy is super-strong and kitted out with armour which makes him extremely resistant to most attacks, as well as a suit which allows him to survive underwater for great lengths of time, as well as blocking out Aquaman's telepathic abilities. As if that wasn't enough, the suit comes with a ton of rockets and energy weapons, and Black Manta also has a submarine base and a fleet of goons to do his bidding. He may not be much of a threat to Aquaman in hand-to-hand combat, but his strategic head and array of toys nevertheless makes him the character's most fierce enemy. Persistent rumours suggest that he'll be played by Common in the upcoming Aquaman movie. Why He'll Be Ruined: The Aquaman movie is easily the most challenging proposition on the DC Cinematic Universe slate right now, given the overt audience prejudice against the character as too "silly" for his own film, and that's without even considering how it will ultimately depict Black Manta. With the iconic yellow and orange Aquaman suit being ditched for something more gritty and modern, expect Manta's goofy suit to also get a contemporary re-design, though getting audiences to take either of these characters seriously as they duel underwater is going to be extremely difficult. The likelihood is that Manta's campier elements will be severely stripped back, resulting in a portrayal that's probably very different from the version of the character most fans know and love, and therefore sure to be divisive at best.
