10 Upcoming Film Sequels And Reboots That Nobody Wants (But Will Make Money Anyway)
6. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Johnny Depp’s Oscar-nominated turn as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl generated so much goodwill that people were willing to pay to see the character return in three bloated and repetitive sequels, proving that a modern crowd will sit through anything as long there’s jokes and special effects.
POTC: Dead Men Tell No Tales is sequel #4, but by now one thing is clear – this particular horse has already been flogged, and now we are picking strips of flesh from its carcase. Purporting to be a “soft reboot”, the film’s plot involves Captain Jack’s search for the Trident of Poseidon, which grants the owner control over the seas.
Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush and Kevin McNally all return, but the most ominous sign is the the screenplay credit. The script is written by Jeff Nathanson, who also worked on Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull and Speed 2: Cruise Control.
Be afraid, be very afraid.
