10 Upcoming Horror Movies That Are Already Doomed
6. Resident Evil (2026)
Yes, 2026 brings yet another Resident Evil film to our screens - this time mercifully ignoring prior continuity (including the 2021 reboot Welcome to Raccoon City).
And yet, there hasn't been a really strong adaptation of the video game series to date, despite seven live-action films with five different directors. As we know, video games do not transfer across to the big screen easily, and although narrative storytelling in gaming has come a long way in the past few decades, Resident Evil has always been built for action-based horror above anything else.
Zach Cregger is on board to direct this time around, and yet he says his film will ignore the games' characters and plots; not exactly what fans of the franchise want to hear. So the real question is: who is this for? RE fans may be turned off by the distance from the property's hallmarks, and casual viewers may be put off by the RE branding. Even if it ends up being a halfway decent film (and that is still very much an if), this next Resident Evil flick is already doomed.
