10 Upcoming Horror Movies That Are Already Doomed

2. The Strangers - Chapter 2 (2025)

The Strangers Chapter 2
Lionsgate

Despite being the third film in the series, we were subjected to Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 last year. Yes, that’s Renny Harlin of Reunion 3: Singles Cruise, 5 Days of War, and Blast From The Past fame. And this year we’re being treated to the second instalment in what so far promises to be a diabolical trilogy.

Presumed dead in the water after the travesty that was Chapter 1, The Strangers – Chapter 2 is ploughing ahead in a franchise nobody asked for. And this is where the film’s big problem lies: the first Strangers was a tense home invasion flick that played on the average middle-class American’s fears of being preyed upon by nihilistic, emotionless killers with no discernible agenda. But, apart from the masks the killers wear, there was nothing to build on.

The franchise has been weary at best so far, the heroes forgettable, the villains one-note, and this new Chapters trilogy is trotting out the same old story - something even fans of the franchise can only take so much of. And yet, because they shot the three films at once, it’s likely we’re going to see the lot whether we like it or not, as Lionsgate and Fifth Element have already sunk so much time and money into them. But don’t be surprised if the third goes straight to streaming - where Chapter 2 belongs.
