Last year saw more Stephen King adaptations than you could shake a stick at. With that said, there's plenty more on the horizon, including new adaptations of Carrie, The Dark Tower, and The Mist.

However, another upcoming do-over that hasn't gotten much attention is Cujo, set for release on Netflix. The novel revolves around a playful Saint Bernard who goes on a killing spree after being infected with rabies.

Cujo's narrative is straightforward and contained, so it doesn't seem like the kind of story worth retelling. The 1983 version was faithful to the source material, so a remake seems even more redundant.

But that doesn't mean the latest incarnation is necessarily going to fail. Netflix has a tremendous track record with King adaptations, as can be demonstrated by 1922, In the Tall Grass, Mr. Harrigan's Phone, and Gerald's Game.

Most importantly, Darren Aronofsky is being eyed to helm the project. Aronofsky has a knack for disturbing imagery, as can be observed in Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, and mother!. With that in mind, he shouldn't have any trouble making Cujo significantly more unsettling than the 1983 iteration.
