10 Upcoming Horrors We Can't Believe Are Happening

Gremlins. Wolf Creek. The Blair Witch Project. They're all coming back.

Horror purists shouldn't be too surprised by what the genre has to offer in the near future. It wasn't too left-field when follow-ups for Weapons and Evil Dead Rise were announced, considering how well both films did critically. And even though Scream 7 was polarising, it dominated at the box office, so another entry isn't just expected but guaranteed.

However, there are a couple of horrors on the way that weren't on anybody's radar. On this list, we're looking at forthcoming frightfests that are based on dumb premises, obscure subject matters, and supposedly dead IPs.

If a paranormal B-movie or found-footage indie is renowned for being terrible, the last thing anybody would expect is a remake. But as this list proves, quite a few duds are getting a do-over.

Some scary flicks have been rumoured for decades, to the point where nobody expected them to actually come to fruition. As such, it's genuinely shocking to learn these dead-in-the-water projects will be making a return.

Although it seemed unlikely that these ten horrors would ever exist, they'll all be here before you know it.

10. The Blair Witch Project

The Blair Witch Project was a tour de force, earning a whopping $250 million on a dirt-cheap budget. The uber-successful folk-horror is also directly responsible for revolutionising the found footage genre, laying the groundwork for similar indies, like Paranormal Activity and [REC].

In theory, The Blair Witch Project should've been a powerhouse franchise that cranked out sequels, prequels, and spin-offs. Instead, it had two underwhelming follow-ups that failed to live up to the one that started it all.

Though it looked like The Blair Witch Project had its day in the sun, it hasn't bowed out just yet. In 2022, Lionsgate set to work on a Blair Witch reimagining for streaming services, with original directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez returning as producers. It was later announced that Lionsgate was joining forces with Blumhouse, diminishing any skepticism surrounding the project.

Although the found-footage genre has been thriving for decades, nobody was exactly pining for a Blair Witch Project revival. But at the same time, we can't help being a little bit curious, considering the Blair Witch creators and Blumhouse are involved in this upcoming feature.
