10 Upcoming Movie Sequels We STILL Can't Believe Are Real

There's no denying how iconic horror comedy franchise Scary Movie is, but it's also fair to say that the series well and truly ran itself into the ground with a glut of dubious sequels, culminating in 2013's universally panned Scary Movie 5.

Five movies and almost $900 million in box office receipts was a good run, honestly, and for more than a decade it seemed like the franchise had just run its course. It happens.

But in April 2024, Scary Movie 6 was announced, with the Wayans brothers later confirmed to be reuniting to develop the new film, which is currently set to release on June 12, 2026.

While there's considerable nostalgia for the earlier Scary Movies in particular, Scary Movie 6 is nevertheless surprising given that the spoof genre is pretty much dead, especially where theatrical releases are concerned.

An oversaturation of low-effort spoofs throughout the 2000s and the rise of social media comedy content in the 2010s seemed to basically render the cinematic spoof extinct. 

After all, when people can go online mere days after a new horror movie drops and find some clever, funny parodies on TikTok, why wait a year or two and pay money to watch Hollywood do their own version?

But Scary Movie 6 is definitely happening - it just remains to be seen if audiences will actually turn up for it.
