8. Jeremy Renner - Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation
Of all the characters in the MCU, Hawkeye's got off to the most disappointing start. After a cameo in Thor his first proper appearance in The Avengers gave him very little to do, and this was only partly rectified in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner is apparently no fool, however - in addition to the Marvel franchises he's also involved in the Bourne movies (although Legacy was hardly amazing) and the Mission: Impossible series, having joined Ethan Hunt's team in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. Rogue Nation, due out later this year, looks set to up the ante over the previous film, which if it pulls it off will be an impressive feat indeed. No doubt Renner's character William Brandt will have more to do now that he's an established member of the IMF team. If you're after a movie which really shows off his acting chops you won't go wrong with Kill The Messenger, in which he plays ill-fated investigative journalist Gary Webb uncovering a web of deceit at the heart of the American establishment.
