10 Upcoming Movies That Have Cast Completely The Wrong Person
6. Ewan McGregor - Beauty And The Beast
Everybody loves Ewan McGregor and he's a very capable actor, but trying to picture him as a smooth-talking candelabra in the otherwise perfectly cast, live-action remake of Disney's Beauty and the Beast... well, it's a bit of a stretch, isn't it? McGregor can sing, of course, as witnessed by his turn in Moulin Rouge!, a skill which clearly helped him in nabbing the role, but he still doesn't reek of Lumiere. So whilst the rest of the actors involved with the movie feel natural to their parts (Ian McKellen as Cogsworth and Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts - amazing!), imagining Ewan McGregor as the charismatic candle, complete with French accent, feels like it's destined for mockery. Of course, McGregor could knock this out of the park and surprise everyone, but on the basis of what we know about Beauty and the Beast, this choice doesn't sit right. Who, then? You need a charismatic Frenchman, you hire Jean Dujardin. A far more natural fit for the role of Lumiere, the Oscar-winning actor feels like an inspired choice - not to mention that hearing him sing the iconic "Be Our Guest" has the potential to be brilliant. You know, 'cause he's French. He's also a comedian, and Lumiere should be funny.
