10 Upcoming Movies That Will (Probably) Tease Cinematic Universes

1. Ghostbusters 2020

The Ghostbusters brand has seen better days. Originally a surprise film hit in the 80s, the franchise transitioned to the smaller screen for a couple of decades before returning in 2016. Then it came crashing down again. Many fans of the original were dismayed that the first instalment since 1989 was a gender-bent reboot that completely disregarded the events of the original films, despite the reboot being favourably reviewed by critics overall.

After more years of silence, Columbia Pictures finally announced Ghostbusters 2020, a direct sequel to the original films, disregarding the events of the 2016 film. Despite what Columbia Pictures are saying now about the latter film, the studio could very easily tie the two series together into a cohesive franchise.

Seeing that the supernatural is the basis of all Ghostbusters films and TV shows, an inter-dimensional element would not feel remotely out of place. Teasing that there are multiple universes and Ghostbuster teams could pave the way for a shared universe crossover on the scale of the Avengers films.

Ghostbusters 2020 is set for a July 2020 release, with the ever-popular Finn Wolfhard and Paul Rudd already confirmed to star, and the original cast rumoured to return. If they play their cards right, Columbia could have quite the profuse franchise in their hands.
