10 Upcoming Sequels And Reboots That Will Destroy Your Faith In Cinema
6. The Magnificent Seven
Remember this 1960 movie called The Magnificent Seven and its up and coming stars - Steve McQueen, Yul Bryner, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn and James Coburn (plus Brad Dexter and Horst Buchholz)? It was directed by John Sturges, who also made Bad Day At Black Rock, Gunfight At The O.K. Corral, Ice Station Zebra and The Great Escape.
The casting for this 2017 reboot is interesting – Chris Pratt, Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke and Vincent D’Onofrio are in there, but so are Cam Gigandet (Twilight), Byung-hun Lee (Terminator Genisys) and, as the female lead, Haley Bennett (The Equalizer). Call me pedantic, but Sturges’ original movie was an Americanised version of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, and we don’t remember either having a blonde female lead.
More ominous is the choice of the director - Antoine Fuqua, who made Olympus Has Fallen, Shooter and King Arthur. He also directed Washington and Bennett in the hopelessly bland Equalizer reboot, so unless the stars align correctly, you can expect more of the same old from him.
