5. Professor Layton And The Eternal Diva
Released in Japan in 2009, Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva is a fantastic animated film that stays true to the franchise. It is easy to be hesitant about a movie based on a puzzle game; but trust me, if you are a fan of anime, give this movie a chance. Being what it is, you may get annoyed with how good Professor Layton is at solving puzzles, but there wouldn't be a movie if he didn't. The charm and light-hearted feel of the games infuses itself into the film as it brings to life characters you would expect to see, and a few surprising cameos. The plot is a basic mystery trope, but it successfully finds a way to incorporate puzzles into the movie that keep the story going. Another highlight is the score. Tomohito Nishiura, who composes the music for the games, puts together a strong array of music that can stand on its own.
