10 Ways 2016's Superhero Movies Will Leave Fanboys Massively Disappointed

2. Doctor Strange Might Be Too Strange To Work

Marvel's last couple of "risky" movies (Guardians Of The Galaxy and Ant-Man) ended up working out pretty well for them, but they're taking some big gambles in Phase 3 with the introduction of obscure heroes like Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange. In the case of the latter, it doesn't seem remotely unfair to say that adapting the Sorcerer Supreme could prove to be a real uphill struggle for Marvel Studios. Now, there's no getting around the fact that they're assembled a downright incredible cast, but with a script from a writer with a spotty track record and the hit and miss Scott Derrickson at the helm, that might not be enough to save Doctor Strange if all the pieces don't fall into place exactly right. After all, we're talking about a character who has pretty much never been able to hold his own solo comic book series over the years! Right now, it's definitely a little too early to be writing off Doctor Strange as a failure. If anything, there's a very good chance it will exceed expectations as the two Phase 2 releases mentioned above did. Regardless, it's still worth taking into account the fact that the story of Stephen Strange and the weird approach to his adventures could crash and burn like Alan Taylor's attempt at a more fantasy driven Thor did back in 2013...
