5. You Judge Everyone Based On Their Tastes
Being a movie nerd means that the tastes you have in movies are in some way reflective of your life and world-views. You happen to adore the works of Ingmar Bergman, and you are in turn a ponderous fellow who questions the nature of life after death. You really do like the works of Federico Fellini because they resonate with your feelings on the nature of woman, and how you feel in servitude to them. You watch horror out of morbid curiosity. Fight Club reminds you that despite being in a job you hate, there is hope for some kind of redemption and escape. There's a deep question in there, about which comes first, the interest or the film, but that's for another day. The fact of the matter is, you are a movie nerd, and your tastes reflect YOU. What you like is a reflection of who you are as a person. Not everyone is like this. The average person (aka not a nerd) will watch a film for an escape of some kind and quickly forget it. So while someone you know may proclaim that they greatly enjoyed This Means War, you question how they can be a decent person and yet endorse a piece of leery and misogynistic crap. But this is why you are a nerd and they are not- you watch it and read all manner of stuff into it, whereas the average person will just watch it, and thats that. Sometimes nerds forget this, and I'm not calling myself exempt.
