10 Ways Deadpool 2 Is Actually A Huge Disappointment

2. The Action Is Boring

David Leitch broke onto the scene co-directing John Wick and has ascended to action film royalty in the years since, for good reason. The man knows how to craft thrilling, entrancing action sequences. One need look no further than Atomic Blonde or John Wick for proof of this.

So why are Deadpool 2's action sequences so boring?

There's certainly more of them. Which matches up, since early reports from on-set mentioned that one of Leitch and the crew's driving mantras was that they felt the first film was short on action and they wanted to buff it up. But more does not equal better.

There isn't a single action sequence in the film that is as gripping, entertaining, or memorable as the opening setpiece of the first film. There aren't any of the sustained oners that Leitch is known for and there are hardly any action beats in the entire film worth remembering. Even Deadpool and Cable's fights are comprised of standard choreography that doesn't amount too much.

Most strangely of all, the edit of the film has some very oddly placed cuts during the action sequences that actually dampen the impact of the hits. This can be seen very clearly in Domino and Cable's fight sequence, in which entire hits are botched in the edit.
