10 Ways Deadpool 2 Is Actually A Huge Disappointment
3. It Undoes Everything
The film spends a LOT of time dealing with the consequences of its actions. Vanessa's death dictates the course of the entire film. The X-Force team's unexpected deaths are far and away the comedic highlight of the film. Cable's bizarre choice to use his last time travel to save Deadpool means he can't return to his family, which is played for emotional resonance.
But then literally all of it is undone.
As great as the post-credits scene is (it really, really is), it undoes every single thing the film's narrative does. Negasonic fixes the time travel device and Deadpool embarks on a journey through time to fix his mistakes. Vanessa is brought back to life, the X-Force team never dies, and Cable's time travel device somehow now has more uses.
Which begs the question: what was the point of any of it? The only lasting effects of the film's narrative now are that the X-Force team is set so that their film won't have to spend any time assembling them. But other than that? Nothing.
