In much the same way that alternate realities could be used to introduce Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, alternate timelines could also be used. With the Infinity Stones in circulation, the Time Stone is inevitably going to make an appearance soon - perhaps as soon as Avengers: Age Of Ultron, seeing as Captain America looks set to reunite with Peggy Carter in some way - and if time travel works in a way that makes timelines split in different directions, one of them could be the one in which Spider-Man appears, or the effects of the time travel could simply make Spider-Man appear in what audiences know as the current universe. Who's to say that Captain America going back to meet Peggy didn't have a knock on effect that made Norman Osborn be born and have a laboratory full of radioactive spiders by the time the 2000s came around?
