10 Ways Star Wars Episode 8 Will Probably Rip Off Empire Strikes Back

6. Lots Of Bounty Hunters

A small but important part of The Empire Strikes Back is the bounty hunters subplot, wherein Darth Vader hired a troop of contract killers (including Boba Fett) to locate the Millennium Falcon and its crew after they escaped from Hoth unscathed. Fett got the job done, tracking Han, Leia and co. to Cloud City and leading Vader right to them. It€™s plausible that Star Wars Episode VIII will feature a similar idea to this. Again, Rian Johnson could keep things fresh by flipping this situation around and presenting the Resistance as the ones trying to hunt down Kylo Ren, Supreme Leader Snoke and the rest of the First Order. After all, the Resistance surely won€™t want to give the First Order much time to regroup after they blew up a whole system of planets in The Force Awakens. It€™d be too dangerous to let them make another grab for power, so perhaps General Leia will take the drastic measure of hiring bounty hunters to track down the cabal of Dark Side fanatics before they can strike again. This could serve to flip the script of The Empire Strikes Back entirely. In Episode VIII, maybe it€™s the good guys that are striking back instead of the baddies. This would allow familiar situations to play out differently, avoiding the need to copy the film beat-for-beat as The Force Awakens did with A New Hope.
