10 Ways Star Wars: The Last Jedi Was Almost Completely Different
6. Tom Hardy's Stormtrooper Was Finn's Childhood Friend
At one point, Hardy was so sure of his involvement in the movie that he actually sent out an Instagram (which has now been deleted), all doled up in Stormtrooper garb, surrounded by his potential platoon.
Sadly, his scenes never made it into the movie, though they would've given the final infiltration of Snoke's ship by Finn, Rose and BB-8 a lot more memorability. See, as Slashfilm found out, during a last-minute dart to catch a nearby elevator, our trio make it in safe - only for a platoon of stormtroopers to get in as well.
There's supposedly something of a slow-build realisation as Hardy's trooper looks at Finn, until the latter confronts him, asking if he has a problem. Remember, Finn is dressed as an officer.
Hardy's reply is “I know who you are…. FN-2187!", only to follow up with "Damn boy, I never took you for officer material!”, revealing that the pair grew up together. This dissolves the tension, and gives fans another tidbit of info regarding a stormtrooper's life before being recruited/enslaved.
It's not much, but when the entire point of Finn circa The Force Awakens was to delve into stormtroopers as individuals, it would've been much appreciated.
