10 Ways The DCEU Films Nearly Turned Out Completely Different

2. The Crimean War - Wonder Woman

After Wonder Woman learns Ares has encouraged mankind to wage war on one other, she leaves her home of Themyscira, and ventures into human civilisation for the first time. Having the story take place during World War I was a great idea since Diana witnesses the worst of mankind firsthand, emboldening her even more to safeguard the world.

But Zack Snyder had other plans. As we know, Wonder Woman made her live-action debut in Batman v Superman. In one scene, Bruce Wayne sees Diana in a century-old photograph and realises she is immortal.

Snyder originally wanted the picture to be taken during the Crimean War in 1853, since it was one of the first wars to occur after photography had become commonplace. He also wanted Diana to be more brutal and have scenes of her hacking off the heads of her victims. (If you look closely at the photo, you can see Diana clutching three decapitated heads.)

The original director, Michelle MacLaren, wasn't a fan of this setting or tone and so, had the time period and style changed before Patty Jenkins took over the project.
