10 Ways The Marvel Multiverse Could Kill The MCU
4. Alternate Timelines And Futures
Something of a trope in comic books are alternate timelines and futures. The X-Men have faced everything from Days of Future Past to the Age of Apocalypse, while there are countless possible endings for heroes like Spider-Man, the Hulk, and Thor. These often make for enjoyable reading, but are they stories that should be told on the big screen?
2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past did a decent job of combining "past" and "future" versions of the same heroes, but that becoming a regular occurrence could become something of a bore.
The fun of following the Marvel Cinematic Universe's heroes is watching how their stories unfold in the here and now, so jumping ahead to see how their stories (might) end... well, that kind of takes the fun out of seeing the way things go for them in the present day.
Throw in the confusion that comes with delving into those futures, and it's hopefully not something Marvel Studios decides to do (especially the tired old cliche of a hero glimpsing a possible future and setting out to make sure it never comes to pass).
